Winter activities in Schladming

Versatile winter in Austria

During your holiday in one of our hotels in the Schladming-Dachstein region, you can choose from numerous activities and leisure activities. All you have to do is decide what you feel like doing - would you prefer something relaxing and enjoyable, active and sporty or sociable?
We know we can find the right thing for you. Here you will find a short list of popular winter activities. Of course, we will also be happy to advise you on what you can do at the hotels. Send us a non-binding enquiry and let us know your holiday wishes.

Horse-drawn sleigh rides

Horse-drawn sleigh rides
Throughout the region, local stable owners organise sleigh rides for small and large groups. For children in particular sleigh rides are a mini adventure, the horses making the ride even more exciting. Wrapped up cosy in warm blankets, sleigh rides are a romantic experience for young and old, and a welcome opportunity to discover the beauty of the winter landscape.

Our tip: horsedrawn sleigh rides can also be booked at night and are a unique experience. The destinations are rustic lodges with hearty food and hot drinks. We are happy to give you information about the many options at reception or in reply to your holiday enquiry.

Bavarian curling and ice skating

Bavarian curling
Bavarian curling is considered a sport in Austria, but it is mainly a pastime for guests and locals who quickly get to know each other. No special previous knowledge is required. But everyone with a taste for socialising is welcome. The region has a large number of Bavarian curling rinks (some are also open in the evenings), and the ice stocks are usually provided free of charge directly on site.
Keinprecht Hotels will be happy to help you find suitable Bavarian curling rinks.

Ice skating is a welcome and fun activity for young and old. You can go ice skating at Mitterberg near Gröbming (approx. 15 minutes from Schladming) or, if the weather is good, also at Lake Putterer in Aigen (approx. 30 minutes from Schladming).

Excursion to the Dachstein glacier

Dachstein suspension bridge Snowpark on the Dachstein

The Dachstein, at 2997 m, is Styria’s highest mountain. The glacier region is reached with a panoramic gondola, which climbs 1000 vertical metres in just six minutes without supports and from the mountain station (in the glacier region at 2700 m) offers a fantastic panorama view, amazing sights and sporting facilities.

  • There are fabulously, beautiful exhibits to admire in the Ice Palace, in the bizarre world of the glacier interior.
  • The Skywalk is a viewing platform with a partially glazed floor, which offers a view down over 250 m of steeply sloping rock. First-time visitors can sometimes feel a bit queasy.
  • You’ll get similar tingles on the Dachstein suspension bridge and when stepping onto the stairs into nothingness.
  • Skiers, snowboarders and cross-country skiers are in-season on the Dachstein glacier almost all year round. There's a fun park for freestylers, and the Dachstein mountain station is the starting point for ski tours and freerides

... and much, much more

You can experience all this and more on your winter holiday with us. Horse riding, tandem paragliding, cross-country skiing, tobogganing, fatbiking, snow tubing, ski touring - the list is endless. Our accommodation is as varied as our winter activities - from a guesthouse on a farm to a 4-star hotel, we have the right accommodation for every holiday preference.
